Get clove bud and peppermint essential oils.
Commercial bug sprays are loaded with toxic chemicals like DEET. You don’t want this stuff on your skin or in your lungs.
Clove bud oil is effective against ants because its strong scent masks the smell of the food trail. Peppermint oil is also has a strong aroma and is great for ridding your home of ants and other pests.
Caution – use caution when working with clove bud oil if you are pregnant or have liver disease.
Simply soak a cotton ball in peppermint essential oil and place around the house to prevent ants. This also works well to prevent mice and can substitute for mothballs in your dresser or closet.
Homemade Natural Ant Repellent
35 drops clove bud essential oil
35 drops peppermint essential oil
4 ounces of water
Mix oils and water in a medium spray bottle. Shake well.
Spray baseboards, porches, kitchen cupboards and other high traffic locations. Repeat if needed.
Shake the bottle before use as essential oils can separate.
Use a dark colored spray bottle to prevent the oils from oxidizing or store your spray bottle in a cool, dark place.
Do not use this spray on your skin as the oils are strong and could cause burning or stinging.
Because of its high citral and geraniol content, lemongrass oil is known to repel bugs such as mosquitoes and ants. This natural repellant has a mild smell and can be sprayed directly on the skin. You can even use lemongrass oil to kill fleas; add about 5 drops of oil to water and create your own spray, then apply the spray to your pet’s coat.
Simple Lemongrass Lotion Repellent
Use a 2 ounce bottle
Fill bottle with unscented lotion
Add 5-6 drops of lemongrass

Use 15 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of eucalyptus oil. Add to 2 Tablespoons of Sweet Almond Oil. Shake before use. Then pour a bit of oil into the palm of your hand, rub together and massage it wherever you have exposed skin.
Store remaining in a cool dark place.
