Carpet cleaner: Mix 20 drops of tea tree oil with Borax for homemade carpet powder.
Cooking Odors: Add a few drops of clove oil or orange essential oil to a simmering pan of water to get rid of cooking odors.Detoxify the air: Add peppermint and eucalyptus oil to a gallon of paint to dispel fumes.
Fabric Softener: Make your own fabric softener instead of using the store bought ones that contain toxic chemicals.
You can pre-mix your fabric-softening vinegar by using the following recipe: 1 gallon white vinegar and 30-40 drops of essential oil. Add the oil directly to the gallon container. Shake well before each use and it’s ready for the rinse cycle. For small or average loads add ½ cup to the rinse cycle, or a little more for large loads.
Lavender-scented softener is a favorite or a combine sweet orange and lemongrass. Or use peppermint for an invigorating minty scent.
One benefit of including the essential oils is that many contain antibacterial properties and will help disinfect laundry. Essential oils like sweet orange have also been known to brighten laundry and fight stains.
P.S. Never mix vinegar and chlorine bleach. Doing so produces a dangerous gas. Do not use apple cider vinegar or another tinted vinegar for any of these recipes. Tinted vinegars will stain or darken your clothes.
Hand Cleaner: Eucalyptus essential oil is an excellent cleanser to remove grease and grime from your workday and can rejuvenate sore hands and feet when mixed into a salt bath. Simply mix sea salt, epsom salt and eucalyptus oil to remove grease and dirt for good.
Mold: Add tea tree oil to your diffuser to kill mold and other pathogens in the air.
Natural Home Care: Not only does eucalyptus oil give a nice, fresh fragrance to your home products, but it adds vital anti-microbial properties as well. You can’t go wrong putting several drops into pretty much everything: soap, laundry detergent, mop water, toilet cleaner, window cleaner … you get the idea!
Remove Odors in Clothing: Wash items to remove odors with a wet rag soaked in eucalyptus oil-infused water, and place outside to dry in the sun. This can prevent odors as well as keep the shape intact! You may also mix it with tea tree oil for an anti-stink spray.
Shower and curtain scum: Using a 16-ounce spray bottle, use four drops of eucalyptus essential oil and four drops of tea tree oil with warm water; spray onto your shower for natural mold killing action.
Spot Remover: Eucalyptus oil is highly effective at removing spots on your carpet, clothes and most other fabrics. It even works to get gum off your shoes! Make sure to “test” it on an inconspicuous place first just to make sure the oil doesn’t react negatively with the fabric.
Vacuum cleaner: Add 5-10 drops of your favorite oil in your vacuum bag or dust container.
Washing machine: Add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil scent per load.
